Tregoveryk

The Project

Bartons Building were commissioned for the complete design and build for a new storey and refurbishment of Tregoveryk – a 1960’s bungalow at the end of the Conservation Area in Kingsand.

As a site on the edge of a conservation area extensive consultations (including site visits) were undertaken with the local Parish Council, the Conservation Officer and the local Planning Authority. Once the necessary approvals were in place work commenced in March 2012 with a six month build time.

As can be seen the bungalow was split level, with a tiled roof. Because of the size and complexity of the project which required total removal of the roof a covered scaffold was required and with careful planning allowed the bungalow to be occupied by the owners throughout the build.

The Finish

Work on the complex timber frame and roof structure progressed rapidly and necessitated a mix of a cut roof fabrication together with prefabricated trusses. The whole house was insulated to very high standards and to meet modern energy standards. A new Electrical Central Heating system was provided and the house was re-wired to modern standards. A Slate roof was provided as being more ‘in keeping’ with the requirements of the Conservation Area.

In total two additional bedrooms (with associated storage area) were provided (some with walk in wardrobes) together with an additional bathroom / shower room. A large upstairs living area together with a large roof terrace with sea views completed the design. All external work was carefully considered to match and blend in with the design of the original building and to meet the needs of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The Finish

The work was completed to programme and within the agreed budget. As can be seen from the photographs the results speak for themselves. Dennis and Kim who are the owners are delighted. In their own words:

'The work has completely transformed Tregoveryck from a 1960’s bungalow into a beautiful house with a roof terrace and sea views. Murray Barton oversaw the whole "design and build" project. It was delivered on time and on budget! The design has integrated beautifully both with the existing structure and the surrounding area and we are truly delighted with the result."
