Trevarna

The Beginning

Bartons Building were commissioned for the complete design and complete restoration of Trevarna - a grade 2 listed listed house in the Beautiful village of Cawsand that was built in the late 1800's. As a listed building sited within a Conservation area care had to be taken to preserve the period features and to this end extensive consultations (including site visits) were undertaken with the local Parish Council, the Conservation Officer and the local Planning Authority. Once the necessary approvals were in place work commenced in summer of 2011.

Trevarna hadn't been occupied for 8 years and as can be seen from the photographs was in a totally dilapidated condition. The roof structure had partially collapsed and the interior exposed to the elements. The windows were rotten; there was evidence of structural cracking. Bathrooms and kitchens were relics of the 1960's.Garden and outbuildings resembled the aftermath of a war zone.

Getting There!

The roof was removed and both interior and exterior walls were stripped (and in some instances completely replaced!) Care was taken to photograph and either safely remove or protect the period features. The chimney stack was unstable and was rebuilt. A new cut roof was installed that allowed for the original dormer window on the front elevation to be re-provided. A new Oil Central Heating system was provided and of course the house was completely re-wired. A wood burner was also installed. Quality Kitchens and Bathrooms were installed. The garden was landscaped and with a external decking and Barbeque area. In total 6 Bathrooms with 5 ensuite Bath/ shower rooms were provided. External detailing and cornicing was restored or re-provided to match the original.

The Completed Project

The work was completed to programme and within the agreed budget. As can be seen from the photographs the results speak for themselves. Peter and Wendy the owners are delighted, in their own words: 'We bought Trevarna, a Grade II listed building that was in sore need of renovation. Murray Barton oversaw the whole "design and build" project. It was delivered on time and on budget! We are delighted with the result."
